A Red Red Rose

It was a much better day today, just a bit chilly and  windy. So, we ventured out with gloves and scarves.

We went to Alloway in Ayr - the birthplace of Robbie Burns

This is the cottage where he was born.

We also visited the gardens and the Brig O'Doon which I will do a post on in a couple of days. While in the gardens I spotted this red rose and it made me think of one of Burns poem.

He penned lots of famous poems and songs. One of which is 'A Red Red Rose'.

A Red, Red Rose

by Robert Burns

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That’s sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,

So deep in luve am I:
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,

And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee well, my only Luve

And fare thee well, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.
Mmm, now isn't that a wonderful poem?

I've never heard him referred to as "Robbie". Perfect that you found a rose to accompany one of his poems.
Thanks for sharing photos of your adventure with us!

Beautiful! That you should find the red rose seems to me to be a sign that he lives on. His poem is so heartfelt.

I love those thatched roofs on the old cottages. Amazing!

And I know this poem -- I think we all recognize it -- but your photo is a perfect accompaniment to Mr. Burns' prose. :)
