New Year's Eve 2012

Well, here we are again.  At the end of another year and the beginning of a new one.  The year 2012 hasn't been too bad a year for us but I am looking forward to 2013.
There will be several things for us to look forward to.
Becoming grandparents is bound to be the highlight!!!
Danny and I celebrate our silver wedding anniversary towards the end of the year and are hoping for a really special holiday to celebrate it. When things are more organised I'll let you in on it :))
I have also been thinking of making a book out of my blog - so if anybody has any hints and tips on that I would really appreciate your input!!!
I hope 2013 is a happy and lucky year for everybody - I wonder what it holds for us all.
One thing is for sure though - you only get out of it what you put in to it - so live your life to the fullest and enjoy!!!  That is my philosophical thought for the day - and that doesn't happen very often, lol.
I'm not a great whisky drinker but I am quite partial to a wee glass…

A Wee Bit Of Culture

On Thursday night we did something a wee bit different.   Well, different for us anyway!!!!
A few weeks ago one of my sis-in-laws had asked if we fancied going to see an evening of Tchaikovsky, well of course we said yes please.
So on Thursday, along with Danny, my two sis-in-laws and their husbands, three nieces and one boyfriend,  we met up in Glasgow.  First we went for a very tasty Italian meal, I had  chicken milanese with spaghetti napoli and for dessert I had tiramisu - yummy.  Have I ever said how much I love tiramisu, 'cause I really do :)) I should really have taken my camera to do some foody pictures - but I'm afraid I didn't.
Anyway after a very pleasant dinner we walked along to the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.  I have never been to a classical concert before and didn't really know what to expect.  But you know what, I really enjoyed it and I was surprised at how many of the pieces  I recognised. They played everything from Swan Lake, Piano Concerto No.1 (which I…

Some Christmas Baking

I had so many posts I wanted to do before Christmas but time just got away from me.
So I thought I'd show you some of the many cakes that Karen produced before Christmas (there are a few more but I thought this would do for now) :))
This first is one she made for her sister Laura, isn't it cute?  Laura loves penguins so that is where she got the idea from.

This is a cookie Christmas tree.   So unusual (I've not seen one before) and so very tasty - I am going to get so tubby!!!
And this one is our Christmas cake - it's not a great shot of it but the detail in that church is amazing.
And here is her gingerbread house.  She put a wee tea light inside of it to make it look cozy. I can't get over her imagination - I think she made 10 cakes in total and every one is different.   The problem now is that she is just a wee bit fed of cake making and could do with a break from it for a while. Which is just as well, it's going to take us ages to get through it all.  I wish I co…

The Best Christmas Card Ever!!!

Hi all, hope you have had a wonderful day, full of love, gifts and tasty food.
We have had lots of all three.  All my girls are here today, Laura and Kevin came through from Dundee and are staying the night and going home tomorrow.
I wanted just to pop on quickly to show you the absolutely BEST Christmas card we received this year.
Isn't it wonderful.

I can hardly wait for April to come now :)))

Happy Christmas

I'm so sorry I haven't been around for the last few days - I've been so busy.  It's that time of year isn't it?  When there is just so much to do and so little time to do it in!!!!

Anyway I just wanted to quickly pop in to say  -

I Hope You Have A Peaceful And Happy Christmas :)))

I'll be back soon and I will come and visit you all and I'll be just a little bit heavier - if all the lovely food we have is anything to go by.

See you later - have fun!!!

A Busy Kitchen

I was going to post some pictures from our walk along the beach on Sunday but Karen has been super busy in the kitchen.   She is making lots of Christmas cakes.   Four of her workmates have asked her to make sponge cakes for them.  She spent all day yesterday baking and today she is decorating - and she is singing away to herself - a sure sign she is in her element and really enjoying herself :))
There is however one drawback to all of this productivity - my kitchen is a disaster zone - mess everywhere!!!!  I'm definately NOT posting a picture of that :))

But I will show a picture of all that she has made so far.   You see those tubs on the left, there are full of ginger sheets for making a gingerbread house - I can't wait to see that when it is finished :)   I've always meant to make a gingerbread house but never got around to it.
I'll be sure to put some pictures up of the finished products. She has already made a wee santa to put on top of one the cakes - sooooo cute, lol.

My Weekend

This weekend has been quite a busy one for me.
Laura and Kevin were coming through on Saturday - and it's always lovely to see them.  Laura is 22 weeks pregnant now - that's over half way there!!!   Laura is a very slim girl but is now just starting to have a lovely pregnancy bump and she is absolutely blooming and looking lovely. She is keeping well apart from some back pain which they think may be a trapped nerve - hopefuly that will get better quickly.
On Saturday evening my Sis-in-law, had asked me if I wanted to go to a Dickens Christmas reading.  Now that is something I wouldn't normally go to but I thought why not - and there was a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie, who could say no to that :))   I have to say it was a very pleasant evening.  Anne and I had a good blether (not during the reading, I hasten to add) and the narrator read the Scrooge story - he was very good.
Sunday it was a day of what should I do first. Housework, Christmas card writing, present wrappi…

Santa Claus

Tonight we had a very special person come around to visit our houses.
Yup it was Santa Claus!!!

The local Round Table organise this surprise every year.
I can remember when the girls were wee and Santa would pay us a visit.  He used to come to the front door and talk to them.   In fact one year I actuallyknew who Santa was and he called Karen by her name and she was amazed that Santa actually knew her name.  The look on her face was one to behold I can tell you :))
If you look really closely you might be able to see the man himself crouching down and talking to a couple of youngsters and probably making their night - they will go to bed happy I think :))
Well my girls might be getting older and wiser but they still like to wave as Santa goes by (I was there waving too)!!!

Hustle and Bustle

Not a lot happening around here at the moment - just the usual hustle and bustle of the Christmas rush.  Can you believe that Christmas day is just two weeks away.   Just where did this year go - it hardly seems any time at all since January!!!

I was thinking there is definitely not much new growth in plants at the moment (well it is winter after all) but just look at Karen's plant (which I can't for the life of me remember what is called).  It has quite a few of these tiny wee leaves sprouting.
Well all of my Christmas shopping is done - yeah I can hardly believe I typed those words either.  I can't remember the last time I was so organised. I still have to wrap and write Christmas cards but I'll get around to that this weekend.
I am so glad my shopping is out of the way as I really can't stand the busy shops at this time of year. The only big shopping to do now is the grocery shopping - another job that I really don't like doing.  Oh dear I'd better watch or …

A Treat All For Me :))

Last night one of the girls I work with had a jewellery party at her house.  She did this last year too - somebody comes along and sells some beautiful things.
It's always nice to get out and have a blether and a laugh (and spend some money) with some friends.
Of course I just had to treat myself to something nice :))   Do you like what I decided on - it's so pretty and sparkly!!!

I'm quite good to myself am I not, lol.
Tonight I'm just chillin' listening to some really good cd's.   Robert Plant/Alison Krauss, Bruce Springsteen and now I've got on Natural Acoustic which has some wonderful artists, such as Fleetwood Mac, Don Mclean, Paul Weller to name but a few.
Hope you are having a pleasant evening too. :))

The Happy Orange

So much for me getting out to take some photos - it has been raining for the last two days.
You know that horrible really fine, heavy drizzle you get that just soaks you right through to the skin, well that is what we have been getting.  It really makes you just want to stay indoors and I would if I didn't have to go out to work.
Anyway I was busy eating a lovely satsuma orange this morning - which was really tasty by the way.  I thought, 'I know I'll take some pictures of this little orange', but there's not really a lot you can do to pose an orange.
So this is what I came up with.

Can you see the smiley face? - I hope so!!
I hope you all had a lovely, happy, smiley day :)))

My Weekend

Hi all.   Well I've no picture again today. The reason for this is I've not been out to take any this weekend. I had hoped to manage it but I'm afraid not!!!
I have been busy though.
On Saturday I went Christmas shopping.  Now, I really don't enjoy shopping too much, especially at this time of year.  Everywhere is really, reallybusy, with queues everywhere. I did do quite well though and got most of what I was looking for and I'm very pleased to report I am almost finished with the dreaded shopping :))   In fact I am actually quite organised this year, I don't know what is wrong with me - usuallyI'm rushing around at the last minute!!!
I even went and treated myself to a coffee and a scone - which was definitely needed and very tasty!!
After the shopping and my coffee I had an appointment with the hairdresser.  You know if you need to go shopping I totally recommend a trip to the hairdresser afterwards.  I love getting my hair done. Just sitting and relaxing - no…

It's Icy Out There!!!

It has been quite frosty over here for the last few days.  In fact the frost hasn't cleared for a day or two so I nipped out to the back garden to snap this picture and brrrrr it really is quite chilly!!!!
You know that way when you are at work and you are busy but everything is going smoothly.  Well that was me this morning - and then I get a phone call about one of my girls.  Oh no! I thought.   Emma had been walking to her work at around 10.30 this morning when she slipped on the ice and hurt her leg quite badly. She was lucky that she was just beside the school and a couple of people saw her and helped her into school.  The school phoned me at work - that was also quite strange getting a call from the school when all my girls are finished going to school.  Anyway they told me what had happened and suggested I pick her up and take her to casualty.  After waiting around for over two hours and an x-ray later we discovered she has soft tissue damage to her ankle. So thankfully nothing…

A Hole In The Sky

Here I am - with a picture too :))
I followed Anne's  advice.  She suggested that I load my picture onto Flickr, hit the share button and grab the html code and load in onto my post - and voila - here it is.   Thanks so much Anne :))
I was given so much good advice on how to fix this problem. I think what I will have to do is resize all the pictures I have already loaded onto picasa and re-load them again. Now that is a BIG job and quite time consuming so I will get around to that when I have a bit of time on my hands.  At least now I have a way of putting pictures back onto my blog -  I'm happy again, lol.
I was driving into town late this afternoon - Emma wanted to get a new dress for a party she is going to on Saturday evening, not that I think she needs another dress she has a wardrobe full of them, but that's another story!!!
We saw this vision in the sky as we were driving along and I had to stop and take a picture, it really looks like a hole in the sky doesn't it?   A…

A Post With No Pictures

Here I am - but with no picture!!!
It feels really strange doing a post with no picture.
I wanted to thank everybody for commenting and offering solutions -  I really appreciated your help. I haven't decided what to do about it yet.  I didn't really want my blog to cost me money (although I know it's not much every month).  I will need to get my thinking head on and come up with a solution :))
Well, Karen and Emma came home today at around mid afternoon.  They had a great time visiting Laura and having their girly weekend. They had dinner out on Friday and then went onto Laura's place.
Laura had got tickets for them to go to the cinema to see the new Twilight movie on Saturday (which they said was really good!!) but they were also going to watch all the other Twilight dvd's as well.
Talk about overload :))
The Christmas lights were being switched on in Dundee on Friday night and they watched a fireworks display from Laura's balcony which they said was really good.

Nothing New

Hi everybody!!!
I have not been around much this week and when I decided I wanted to do a post today and tried to upload a picture it told me I couldn't because there was no more memory available for putting onto my blog!! Has anybody else had this?  It also wants me to pay for more memory!
I'm wondering if I can delete from picaso to give me some more space - but will that make me lose pictures on my blog.
HELP!!! lol.
Anyway my news for this week is not terribly exciting I'm afraid.
The weather here has been a bit dismal and not really ideal for going out to take pictures!!! So I'm running kind of low of images :((
Tomorrow Karen and Emma are travelling through to visit Laura.  They are quite excited about it let me tell you. They are going out for dinner and going the the cinema to see the new Twilight movie.  A right girlie weekend for them I think and it sounds like a lot of fun!!!
They are coming home on Sunday.   I can't wait to hear all about it. :))
Now I'm off to c…

Frilly Petals

I bought myself some carnations the other day.   Well, I felt that the house needed just a wee bit of colour so they weren't really for me, I bought them for the house. Does that sound like quite a good excuse, it sounded good inside my head :))
It has been so grey and dismal here and the weather is fairly horrid at the moment, What I wouldn't give for a lovely blue sky - oh well I suppose it is November!!
Anyway I bought these carnations - aren' t they pretty?? I just love their frilly petals.

In fact when you get in real close it is like another world in there - with all of those shapes and colours (that's what I think anyway, but then I might be a wee bit daft!!)

Your Sunday Best
Have a great week everyone!!!

Thoughts on a Friday!

Here is a random thought for a Friday !!!!
Aren't peppers great??
I was just thinking this last night while I was preparing dinner.   We were having chicken fajitas which we totally love :)) I just love the smell of freshly cut peppers and the colours are great, to say nothing of how good they taste. And best of all they are good for you.

So what could I do but get my camera out and shoot some pictures, which did delay the dinner being put on the table but nobody complained too much, lol.
The fajitas were very tasty too :)))

The Cake

Here it is!!! Karen's cake.  Isn't it cool!!!
I am so impressed with what she can do - I could never do anything like this. So she definately doesn't get her talent from her mum, lol.

The good thing about Karen making cakes is that there is usually quite a lot of spare cake going and it is VERY tasty :)) My other news for today is that Laura is going to have a wee boy!!!
We have a lot of girls in our family - I have three girls, I am one of three girls. Danny's sisters have only girls, my sister has three boys and also 2 girls. So I think the boys need to catch up a bit. :))
Now I will need to go and buy some blue wool, I think I had better hurry up and get that blanket done!!!

Road Trip for a Day

Well, we actually got away yesterday, yay. And as promised by the weatherman the sky was blue and it wasn't raining, double yay, lol.
So went got in the car at around 10am and drove (well Danny drove) to see Laura and Kevin. We haven't been there since they moved in and I nhave to say they are certainly making it look like home.
The scenery is really lovely along this journey - I did take a few pictures but the road are very bumpy and most of the shots are a wee bitty blurry.
But here are a couple that didn't turn out too bad.
Do you remember this shot of the church - I took this shot the last time we went through in September?

Well look at the difference that two months make - it looks quite different with all of those lovely autumn colours don't you think?

The last time we went through there wasreallybad roadworks along the way, but despite the sign of these traffic cones I'm pleased to say there were no disruptions to our drive this time.  It was a good run and we did…

Golden Leaves

Since we are now into November and autumn is almost a distant memory I thought I put up my last couple of autumn pictures.
I just love all of the lovely golden colours of the leaves but they are fading fast as winter is quicklyapproaching.

We were going to try and get away somewhere this morning but the rain was pouring and our windscreen wash decided to not work.  Poor Danny has been trying to fix it most of the day. He has managed to fix it and tomorrow we are going through to visit Laura.   We will just be going for the day but I quite like a wee road trip :))   The weather is supposed to be a bit better and that always helps.
Karen has been requested to make a cake for one of her workmates. It is to be in the shape of a guitar and it will be a fairly large cake.  She has not done one like this before so it will be interesting to see how she gets on with it.  Hopefully I will get some pictures of it when she has finished it!!
Have a great Sunday everyone :))

Have A (Wet) Seat

If it hadn't been so wet and rainy I might have sat and enjoyed the view from this seat - oh and I would probably have been swinging my feet through those lovely leaves :))

Well I am very pleased to report that Laura got home safely from India last night.   She walked in the door at 8pm very tired and having had a good time I think (even though it had been for work and not a holiday).   She did say that India was completely different to anything she expected and that the people were lovely.
A couple of years ago I asked her to bring me a fridge magnet home from wherever she was going to be on holiday.  I have built up quite a wee selection.  New York Chicago Las Vegas Gran Canaria London Alton Towers - Karen brought this one home! Boston and Cambletown - Emma brought these home.
Now I've got one from Mumbai, India - it's great, I feel like I am travelling the world through my girls and my fridge magnets, lol.
My fridge is getting a wee bit busy though :))
