A Week In Review

While we were out on our walk a couple of weeks ago (I know, I'm just a wee bit behind in my posts!!) I saw these snowdrops just starting to peek their heads up.  I think there might just be a good crop this year if all of these buds are anything to go by.   Note to self - I must remember to go back in a while just to see if there is!!!

So, since I've not been around much these last few days (shame on me) I thought I'd do a round-up of last weeks news.
I had quite a good and fun week last week - which is always good!!! :)
Last Tuesday Karen, Emma and I took a trip to Silverburn (an indoor shopping centre just outside of Glasgow).  It was Emma's birthday on the 16th - she didn't know what she wanted for a present and I had no idea what to get her - so we went shopping.  The only trouble was she didn't see anything she fancied so she didn't get anything. I have just given her the money so she can get herself something - that seemed like a sensible thing to do…

Baby Picture!!!

Hi all :)
I had a whole other post planned for today but I just HAD to put this one up instead.   I hope you don't mind!!!
Laura and Kevin are through just now and they had their 4D baby scan done yesterday.  They got some great pics, a dvd of the whole scan experience and a pendrive with all of the pics on it.
You all know what a show off I am (well if you didn't, you do now, lol) so I just had to show you this picture of our beautiful wee grandson.

Isn't he just the cutest wee baby (ok maybe I'm a wee bit biased, lol).  I know that Laura and Kevin are so excited to meet him now - as are all of us!!!
Isn't it amazing how far technology has come over the years?
When I was pregnant with Laura, a mere 24 years ago, they were just starting to do basic scanning. We did get a scan picture but over a few years it totally faded away and there was nothing left on the paper.
Anyway, wishing everybody a lovely weekend.  We are all going out for dinner tonight - a late family c…

An Apology and an Update

First off, I feel an apology is in order!  I haven't put a post up in over a week. That is the longest I've been away from my blog since I started!!!!   Not only that but I haven't visited any of you in all that time either. So - I'm sorry.
So I thought I'd do an update on my week (and a bit!!!).
Last weekend (or maybe the one before), Danny and I went for a long walk.  It was a lovely day - and we aren't getting many of these nowadays.   It was a great walk and we really felt the benefit of it.
We walked through the woods and we saw this field full of geese - you wouldn't believe the noise they made.  You could really hear them before you saw them :)
I took some pictures but I'm afraid they aren't very good, I only had my wee point and shoot and it was at full zoom.

We also had a birthday last week.
My wee girl Emma just turned 18!!!  Can you believe that - how did she ever get to be that age so quickly?   She has had so many nights out she has hardly bee…

Roses With A Difference

Last night Karen was making an anniversary cake for one of her colleagues. She was making roses for the top of the cake and she asked me if I would give her a hand.  I thought 'how hard can it be?'.  Hah  that should read very hard!!!!!
I just could not for the life of me do it.  I had at least 6 attempts and not one of them was any good.
Karen, however, managed to make 13 of them and every one a winner.  It just proved to me that she has a real talent and once again I am very impressed with her skills. Here is her finished cake - please excuse the rotten picture quality. My excuse - it was very late at night :))
She has another cake to make for tomorrow - this one is a birthday cake for a girl.  The theme - a boxing ring.  Just a wee bit different if you ask me.

A Bit of Greenery and a Reflection for Friday

Well, here we are at Friday again :)) It is now 9.30pm, we have had our dinner, I've done my grocery shopping and now we are sitting watching the telly and I'm typing this post.  We have nothing planned for the next couple of days so hopefully it will be a relaxing one so that we can re-charge our batteries for next week.
The weather here is due to get a lot colder over the next few days, which will make a nice change from all of the rain and greyness we have been having.
Do you remember my toothache from last weekend?  Well first thing on monday I went to the dentist to see if they would have a look.  Well, apparantly is is quite a big hole with quite a lot of decay - eek!!!   So the dentist cleaned it out the best she could and put a temporary filling in.  I've to go back on the 20th February to get it fixed properly by my own dentist.  The trouble is it is still niggling away - definitely not as sore as it was.  I'm wondering if I can last until 20th February.  Oh and h…

Since I mentioned in my last post that Danny had picked up some driftwood from the beach I thought I'd take a couple of pictures to show what they are like.
Hopefully they will dry out nicely and not be full of rot in the middle!!! They do look quite nice with a nice grain running through them. Do you see the black lines in the top of the first one? That means it is spalted.  Spalting is caused by fungus in the wood and you have to be careful and use a mask when working on it as it can cause lung irritation- quite scary eh!! Are you impressed with my growing knowledge of woodwork and it's terms - I know I am!!! :))

In other news today - I have had the most awful toothache today.   I think I have a wee hole in one of my back teeth.  That can only mean one thing - a visit to the dreaded dentist.   Oh no!!!!   But needs must - I cannot stand this toothache :(
Anyway that's enough moaning from me I think!!!
Has anybody got anything exciting happening this week. I don't but we will w…

She Sees Seashells on the Seashore!!

How can it possibly be the 5th of January already!!
I'm not sure where my time went this week (I certainly haven't been blogging!!!).  I think getting two days off work mid-week has thrown me somewhat.
The trouble is I don't seem to have had any spare time - I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Maybe I just need to organise myself a wee bit better.
We have had quite a quiet start to the New Year with not a lot happening - which is actually kind of nice after the hustle and bustle of Christmas.
We did take a couple of walks along the beach - it is nice to get to some fresh air after doing all of that sitting about and eating that Christmas is all about.

We don't normally get such big seashells here but these were fairly large and I just had to take a picture.   In fact Danny was looking for some driftwood on the beach to take home so that he can do some woodwork on it.   He did find 2 largish pieces which he brought home.  They are sitting in the garden - I was …

The First Day of the New Year!!

Well today the rain actually stopped for a few hours.  I was checking on the internet the state of the weather and we decided to take a walk at about 2pm when it was due to stop raining .
We donned our coats, scarfs and hats and went along the beach for our walk. Boy was it windy.  Certainly blew the cobwebs away I'll tell you!!!

I took these three shots at the same spot.  The first one is looking straight ahead at the water, the 2nd was turning to my left and the last one (is a wee bit blurry, sorry) was turned to my right.   Isn't it amazing how different they all are.   One thing is for sure it sure was blowy - I was actually quite glad to get home for a nice cuppa coffee :))
I made a nice steak pie for dinner, it was very tasty (apart from the pastry which didn't rise the way I wanted it too). We also had some Christmas pudding and brandy sauce - we didn't have it on Christmas day as Laura and Kevin had brought some chocolate gateau - now who could say no to that, certa…
