The Wedding

Now I know I haven't posted for ages, I'm sorry I have no excuses!!

But I just had to post about our daughter Laura's wedding to Kevin last weekend.

It was  long anticipated and last Saturday was the big day.

We drove through on the Friday afternoon and booked into our hotel.
Karen's boyfriend drove through as well and as it was his birthday we all went out for dinner on the friday night which was a lovely way to spend the night before.

The wedding was to be in a beautiful venue called 'The Vu' which is in Bathgate fairly near to Edinburgh.

Laura chose her venue very well as this was a spectacular place to get married.

The weather here has been pretty dismal with rain and strong winds and very grey skys so we didn't hold much hope for a bright day, but guess what, the rain dried up, wind stopped blowing and the sky was  clearer.

True to most weddings, we did have a minor emergency, which didn't feel very minor at the time let me tell you.
I forgot to load Laura's hooped underskirt in the car and it was a necessity.
However Danny to the rescue as ever , he did a three hour round trip home to pick it up - my hero!
So while us girls were getting beautified - hair and make up done - Danny was driving cross the country to save the day.

He made it back by 1.45, fully dressed in his kilt, looking very smart may I add.
We finally had an hour to relax with a wee glass of bubbly before our cars came to pick us us.

Before we knew it we were at the venue. I hadn't seen it beforehand and my goodness it was beautiful.
The Water Lily suite was surrounded by water and the sun was setting, really made my jaw drop in awe let me tell you :)

The service was really lovely and before we knew it we were having the speeches, eating a very tasty dinner and the partying  began, it was so lovely to see so many family members and friends all having a good time.

Fair to say we had a ball and are sooooo proud of our beautiful daughters and not forgetting our wee Riley, who I might add was an absolute star!

All the men, and Riley, in the wedding party were kitted out in kilts and were looking very smart.
It is really lovely to see everyone all dressed up.

Here are a few of my pics, not the best quality.  We can't wait to see the photographers pics.

 The stunning bride.

 Emma, Karen and me.

Karen, Kevin, Laura and Emma.

Riley and his Grandad, I love this pic :)

Oh well, it's all over now and we're all feeling happy and tired and living on the lovely memories.

But one last thing to say, "Welcome to the family Kevin" :))

Thanks for reading. :)

Melrose Abbey

Ok so I  have been back to work for a couple of weeks after our summer holiday.
Not that we did that much.
We (well I mean Danny really) fixed a leak in the water tank, that took a full week as there were so many problems but it's fixed now so all is well :)

My girls and me went to Glasgow so Laura could try on her wedding dress which had just come into the shop - and she did look stunning!

Oh and I also bought my wedding outfit!!!
  I know I can't believe it either.

I really had had no intention of buying so early but the girls wanted me to try on some things and before I knew it I found THE ONE.
You know when you try something on and you just LOVE it, well that's what happened!
I am not an  impulse buyer and I hate shopping for clothes but there you go.
I just have to really careful to not put on too much weight or lose to much either. Now I'm pretty sure I'll manage not to lose much but not putting it on might be more difficult lol.
That just leaves the shoes, bag and hat to get!

Danny and I also took a wee trip to Peebles in the Borders area of Scotland. Peebles is lovely quiet wee town. In the afternon we took a wander around the town, we stopped at a coffee shop and had a delicious coffee and sat outside the shop and people watched.
It was very pleasant way to spend an afternoon!

Then the next day we drove further on to the town of Melrose to see Melrose Abbey.  If you ever get the chance you should visit Melrose such a lovely wee town and the Abbey is stunning.

Quite stunning I think you would agree!
You can only imagine how grand it looked back in the day!

It dates back to 1136 and was founded by the Cistercian monks and is said to be the place where Robert the Bruce's heart is buried.

We enjoyed visiting it so much we decided we quite fancy visiting the other abbeys in that area those being in Jedburgh and Dryburgh.

A Break In The Weather

I am now on my annual summer leave from work. Hurray I shout, but wait!!!

The weather is the absolute pits. I can't believe we are into June - yes June I say!  It is so cold, really windy and very rainy. Yuk!!  In fact we have just put the lounge fire on this evening as it is sooo cold tonight.
However there is another reason for the cold in the house.  Thursday morning we woke to strong smell of wet wallpaper. Mmmm where can that be coming from.  We soon discovered - the water tank in the attic had sprung a leak which resulted in the ceiling of one of the bedrooms getting more than slightly damp.
So poor Danny has spent the last 4 days trying to fix it, putting in a new tank etc. As a result we have no heating and no hot water - only the shower has any warmth to it. We are hoping by tomorrow however it will all be sorted.
What a start to a holiday!!!!

Anyway the good news - Karen came home from her holiday in Athens on Thursday and she loved it.
She saw lots, and is a girl who takes after her old mum and took lots and lots of pics  - ha ha I taught that girl well :))

It is so nice to have her home again.

Anyway yesterday afternoon there was a break in the rain for a couple of hours and Karen and I took advantage and went to the local park and had a lovely afternoon.

It was so pretty and peaceful there.

 We also discovered this -

A totally unassuming  tree stump - or so you would think!

Lets have a closer look

Look at what was inside

The Gruffalo!!!

Somebody had carved inside the tree stump!
How cool is that - so clever too! ))

Can you see the top of Karen's head lol.

Anyway it was a fun couple of hours and so nice to get out.

Have a good week everyone!

Red and White

Ok it's been two weeks since I last blogged.
When I think back to a couple of years when I used to blog daily - how did I ever do it!!
I don't seem to have much to write about nowadays, looking back I didn't then either but I still did  it!
I must have turned into a very boring person - surely not :))

I know lots of people going away on holiday just now - and I'm very envious of them all!

First of all our Karen is away to Athens.
Wow, what a place to visit, so much to see and do!   I can't wait till she gets back to hear all about it and see her piccies.

My friend is away to Italy at the end of the week. I'd love to go to Italy, maybe next year eh Danny!!!!

My sister is also going away for a week relaxing in the sun - sounds like bliss!!!

I shouldn't really complain as I haven't done too badly holiday wise over the last couple of years having visited America, Portugal and Germany.
I love visiting other countries and seeing their sights!

Anyway today hasn't been too bad a day, and I was out inspecting what was growing in my garden (apart from the weeds etc!).

I saw this little lilac flower and I've no idea what it is. It started with a wee lilac bulb which then blossomed into this, I wonder what it will do next.
If anyone has any idea what it might be I'd love it if you would let me know :)

Pretty wee thing isn't it?

I also did something else that I haven't done for the longest time.
I bough myself some flowers and took some pics of them.
Red and white are such a beautiful contrast don't you think?

Our house is a bit quiet now with Karen being away, just me and Danny here now.
We are sitting listening to Pink Floyd on the cd player.
Very cool!!

Anyway I'm signing off the the day, I'll try and blog before the next two weeks are up :))

Have a good week everyone!  :))

Our Week!

So, we had a bank holiday last Monday which gave us a free day at the weekend.
It was a lovely day so we decided to take a wee trip.

We drove to Loch Doon which is in the Galloway Forest.
It's such a beautiful place and so peaceful!

We stopped and had our packed lunch and all you could hear were the birds chirping.

It was lovely and warm in the car but let me tell you when you went out, boy was that a chilly wind blowing.

We pottered about taking some piccies and then drove back home going through the forest.

All in all it was a very pleasant day!

However, the next day at work well that was a different story.
Phew we were sooooo busy.
You do begin to wonder if it is really worth having a day off.

But I am really glad we did :))

We also bought a new exercise bike this week.
Hubby and I are now on a get fit kick.
I think I am really needing it!! :)

Watch this space!

April Sunset!

Karen and I were out doing our grocery shopping tonight and on the way home we saw the sun was setting. So we made a dash to the beach to see if I could get a shot of it.

We sat and watched it disappear into the sea.  It was stunning!!

Taken with my iphone - thanks goodness for the iphone camera! :))

Playing Catch-up!

Well here I am playing catch up again,  it's been two weeks since my last post!
The trouble with falling behind is trying to remember what I've been up to!

First of all I've been feeling a bit under the weather for the last wee while, however I've been to see the doc. who has given me some tablets and I'm now just about back up to scratch, which is always a good thing :)

The other weekend -I can't remember which one - we had some fog. Now we don't usually get much fog here but this lasted for the whole weekend.
It wasn't widespread it just seemed to lie over the sea.

It was very strange.
I went down to the beach with my phone to grab a picture. I don't know if you can make the fog out but it was definitely there.

Karen has decided to take up quilt making - we are so impressed with her efforts.
She made Riley a quilt for his birthday.
He LOVES Thomas the Tank Engine.

And I've started knitting - I used to do this many years ago and I loved it!  So I thought I'd give it another go.
It's so good you can watch the telly and knit at the same time.
I made a couple of hats over the winter, Emma loved hers and wore it while she was in Germany! I've also started an afghan blanket, and a jumper for wee Riley.

I also found this pattern

Aren't they cute!!!

I haven't got the yarn yet and it should be interesting knitting it up.
I'll be sure to keep you all up to date with how it's going.

We have an extra day off work next week as Monday is a public holiday - yay for a three day weekend.
I'm hoping the weather picks up a wee bit - it's been really cold here with rain and some snow brrr - then we maybe can do something interesting with our free day.

Here's hoping!

I hope everyone has a fab week. :))

Turning Two

Our wee Riley turned two!
Laura and Riley came to stay with us for the weekend.
Never a dull moment was had all weekend :)

We went to visit Great Gran and Great Grandad and he had a shot on the keyboard while his Great Gran and Gran looked on in pride :)

He looks like a natural don't you think. I can really see him being a rockstar in  years to come!!!

Oh there's a thought, I wonder how his mum might feel about that  hee hee.

And here is he with his his Aunty Karen, making his own birthday cake - maybe he won't be a rockstar after all,  perhaps he will be a chef!!!

And here he is with his mummy sharing a laugh - isn't he just the cutest wee chap!

They left to go home on Sunday at lunch time and boy was the  house quiet.

He certainly is the life and soul wherever he goes.

We are really missing his contagious giggle and winning smile.

It's Been How Long!!!

I've almost forgotten how to put a post up - it's been soooooo long.  In fact October 2014 was  the last time!

It's been nagging at me to come back for quite a wee while now, but tonight I finally decided just to do it and not just think about it.

So, an update is in order I think!
Let's see now what have I been up to.

Emm, hum -  how can 6/7 months go by and it feels as if I haven't done much!

First off I don't think I ever mentioned it but Karen graduated with honours from university  - we are so proud of her - all of her hard work and dedication paid off.
Now she is just waiting to find her dream job which I'm sure isn't too far away.

Emma finished her 6 months in Germany and is now back at university in Glasgow and in her 3rd year.

We visited her in Germany in January and spent the week in Berlin (some pictures below). It was a cold, wet, snowy dismal week but we enjoyed it anyway, so much to see and do.

Laura is getting married in December.  Bridal and bridesmaid dresses have been ordered and plans are well underway.
And our wee Riley turns 2 next week - where does the time go.
The older I get the more often I ask myself that question - I've still to come up with an answer!!!

Other than that nothing much else is happening!

Anyway, pictures of Berlin!

The Brandenburg Gate - it was snowing, sleet and rain and bitterly cold this day and we walked for miles!

The Reichstag building at the back on the left. Stunning building and definitely worth a visit.

 Checkpoint Charlie

Berlin is a city of cranes - lots of work being done and everywhere you looked there were cranes.

The TV tower in Alexanderplatz, the top disappearing into the clouds.

Poseiden sculpture - usually there are fountains going but not that day.

Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels statues(and Dan tagged on at the end)

We took a train out to Potsdam.
Palaces and opulance galore.
Such beautiful architecture.

The sun even came out for a short while before we got the train back.

Just a few of the very many pictures that I took while there.
We did so much in a week - walking, museums, sighseeing.

All in all we had a very enjoyable week in Berlin - such a lot of history too.

It wasn't somewhere I ever expected to visit but I'm so glad we did.
