Pancake Day!!!!

Well, we have just finished dinner - and I am feeling just a little bit stuffed.

Today is Shrove Tuesday or otherwise known as Pancake Day.

Pancake Day is the last day before Lent and pancakes were traditionally made on this day to use up the eggs and fat which were not eaten during the fasting period.

How could I let the day go by unnoticed?  It is so quick and easy (and tasty!!!).

  • 125g flour
  • 1½ tsp  baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 300ml milk
  • butter , for frying
  • 1 tbsp golden caster sugar
  1. Put the flour, baking powder, egg, milk and sugar in a large jug then whiz with a hand-held blender until smooth (or just whisk together in a bowl).
  2. Heat a non-stick frying pan (add a little butter if you need) and pour in small amounts of batter. Once the top of the pancake has bubbled and set, flip with a palette knife and cook on the other side. Repeat until all the batter is used.

Now, Karen and Danny had their pancake with lemon juice and sugar. They sprinkle sugar on first and then drizzle the lemon juice.

But I like (love) maple syrup with mine - yummy yummy lol.

They were very tasty - in fact I might have to make them again sooner than next year :))

This will be the first Shrove Tuesday in I don't even know how long that we will not be going to the pancake dinner at the church hosted by the kid's youth group). We just decided that we all needed a quiet evening at home.

So, instead of pancakes we are having pasta and chicken and cookies for dessert.

Your pancakes look delicious. We always have ours with real Canadian maple syrup. I've never heard of the sugar and lemon juice mix. I must try it.

Your pancakes look yummy. It is maybe silly, but I have never heard of Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day before. I have seen it mentioned on several blogs today, interesting.

Hi Ellie! Thanks for sharing your pancake photo with us this week. I really appreciate it. I love, love pancakes and I make them frequently. However, my favorite part is flipping! I don't use knife, I just flip them in the air.
