Modern Machines

Do you like my little purple flower - I'm not sure what it is. I did think it might be a thistle but I'm not so sure.
It is nice to see a lovely bit of colour in amongst the green.

It's Saturday evening and I've had my dinner and hand washed  the dishes.
What, I hear you say - why are you hand washing dishes in this day of dishwashers?
Well, let me tell you - we woke p to find our dishwasher has packed in.
Argh - that means hand washing dishes - it has been soooooo long since I have had to do that.
I have done the odd dish but not a whole meal's worth.
Oh well I've still got 2 daughters living at home - I'm sure that is a duty that can be shared around until it gets fixed or we get a new one :))

It just goes to show how spoiled I have become in this day of gadgets and time saving machines.

I can remember when I was a wee girl my mum used to have a set day for doing her laundry.  It took all day standing beside a twin tub and do it all manually. Phew, can you imagine having to do that today. Mind you I loved to help her doing it :)

I have decided I want to use my slow cooker - you know I bought one about 18 years ago and have never used it.  So I have looked it out and cleaned it up and tomorrow I plan to use it for the first time.
I reckon it  will be great to put it on in the morning and by tea-time our meal will be ready. So I can come home from work and voila - dinner will be ready.

Does anybody have any great recipes I could use?

i like your thistle. sorry about the dishwasher, but i kind of like washing dishes by hand - especially if you can share it with someone drying. :)

good luck with the slow-cooker! i haven't used mine in years.

Hey Ellie,
You know we've been apartment hunting in San Francisco and it's been tough to find a place that has a diswasher and is in our budget! I can't imagine life without one! Imagine having to do the dishes everyday and I don't even have kids to help me out :)
Hope yours gets repaired soon or you buy a new one.. I guess all of us can't live without technology these days!
haha
Happy weekend

I love the colour of your thistle. I haven't had a dishwasher for 16 years and washing dishes by hand is rather nice, especially as you are a family and can have lovely heart to heart talks as you take it in turns! It's much more sociable than vacuuming or washing the floors! Just put a smile on your faces and decide to like together time!!!

I love that purple thistle :)

Sorry about your dishwasher! I hand wash a lot of my dishes, although I have a dishwasher. I can't explain why I wash them by hand...I'm the oddball, I suppose.

I love my slow cookers, I use them quite often - I hope you'll enjoy the freedom of your slow cooker! :)

I haven't had a dishwasher in over 10 years. With just the 2 of us, seems rather silly.

Haven't used a crock pot for awhile, but roast + veggies is always a good bet. :)

Your thistle is very pretty in pink.

I enjoy hand-washing my dishes. Never could remember to use the dishwasher anyway.

I wish I could offer some suggestions for your slow-cooker but it's been years since I've used mine.

A beautiful shot of a beautiful flower. :)

I wash dishes a lot by hand..just Mr. Sweet and I and it saves money, not running our dishwasher all the time.

And, I couldn't get along without my slow cooker..use it all the time.:)

Oh no, I still hand wash my dishes.

Though I take pictures with a Canon 7D.
It looks of the thistle family doesn't it!? As you say a lovely bit of colour! Shame about your dishwasher perhaps this will lead to more family togetherness as you share the washing/drying.....? Oh well just a suggestion! As long as it's all not down to you!
I too remember the old twintub and in fact my aunt refused to get rid of hers until it totally packed up about 5 years ago. I remember standing next to my grandmother as she put clothes through a wringer! Better stop there, I think! Joan

I wash the dishes mostly by hand as we don't have a dishwasher where we currently live. But it's ok, I'm used to it. But all the rest we have here is automatic. Even the espresso machine :)

I would wash the dishes and my Mother would dry them when she lived with us, now that she is gone, they just sit on the drainer until dry. Good luck with that crock pot, after sitting idle for 18 years I hope it works. Sign up for pinterest, there are hundreds of recipes for crockpot users.

We have a dishwasher, but I mostly do them by hand. MInd you, when we were babysitting Lorelei when her mom was working, I used it all the time! And would again if life got too busy.
